Advantages of LED lighting

LED technology in the barn pays off
LEDs work with a high degree of efficiency and thus very efficiently, their luminous efficacy is therefore particularly high. The investment costs for new equipment or retrofitting are amortised after a short time through considerable savings in operation. A good 100 W LED spotlight shines just as brightly as a 500 W halogen spotlight but consumes about 80 % less electricity with the same light output.

High durability
LED chips have a very long service life of up to 100,000 hours. In continuous operation, this is approx. 6 years, with daily operation of 8 hours even more than 17 years. Costs for maintenance and lamp replacement are thus reduced to a minimum. LED chips also do not simply fail but lose brightness over time (degradation).

Luminous efficacy
LED luminaires with industrially manufactured high-performance LED chips, for example, have a luminous efficacy approximately 5 times higher than conventional halogen luminaires.

High switching resistance
Unlike energy-saving or fluorescent lamps, the robust light-emitting diodes are practically insensitive to frequent switching on and off. They are therefore also ideally suited for switching-intensive operation on motion detectors.

Full light output immediately
Minute-long "warm-up phases" are a thing of the past with LEDs because they provide 100 % light output immediately after being switched on.

Full light output even at low temperatures
LEDs work very efficiently even at low temperatures and are therefore ideal for use outdoors or in unheated buildings.
No attraction effect on insects
Unlike the human eye, insect eyes are particularly sensitive to ultraviolet radiation (UV). While the mercury vapour high-pressure lamps frequently used in the past still acted like a hoover for millions of insects due to their high UV content, the light emitted by LEDs is considered very insect-friendly - it contains practically no UV radiation.

No additional heat input
The light emitted by an LED remains cool - in contrast to temperature radiators such as halogen or incandescent lamps, where a large part of the energy is converted into infrared radiation and thus into heat. In LEDs, heat is generated in the electronics but is not radiated in the direction of the object to be illuminated.

Natural colour perception
In dairy cattle husbandry, a high and thus natural colour rendition is required for colour differentiation of blood, urine and milk, especially in treatment stalls, sick stalls and calving pens. The quality of colour rendering is indicated by the Ra value. The maximum possible value is 100, an Ra value of > 75 is recommended. In contrast to LEDs, sodium vapour lamps (Ra 20-50), for example, have very poor colour rendering properties.
 
Environmentally friendly and safe operation
Due to their high energy efficiency, CO2 emissions remain correspondingly low. As LED luminaires do not contain mercury, they are completely safe to operate and can be disposed of at municipal collection points.
